This charming cottage was previously owned by three generations of a family of artists and designers and we were immediately drawn to that energy in the space. The house’s charm and surrounding lush property brings to mind a rustic old world beauty of a farm cottage one might find in the south of France. That became the inspiration for the interior decor and we really wanted to lean into making this a transportive experience. As for the dirty work, it was most recently renovated in the 1990s - the obvious challenge was undoing the dated 90s look to reintroduce period appropriate character to the space. This wound up translating into a full gut renovation. We tore down drywall ceilings to reveal old weathered joists, built walls to create private bedrooms upstairs, remodeled the kitchen and reworked the bathrooms to move the full bath upstairs.
